Insight-Cybermedia.com, Jatinangor - In order to accelerate journal management towards reputable scientific journals, the Indonesian Journal Volunteer (RJI) of West Java Regional held a Scientific Journal workshop at the Graha Bustanil Arifin Building, Ikopin University, Jatinangor (23/09/2023). The workshop, which was held in conjunction with the West Java Indonesian Journal Volunteer Regional Congress (Musda RJI), was attended by 50 participants from various universities in West Java, as well as from Lampung Province and Lhokseumawe City, Aceh.
In his remarks, RJI Chairman of West Java, Dr. Uwes Fatoni, M.Ag, revealed that the workshop held this time was targeted at making journal managers understand how to prepare scientific journals with international reputation. According to him, National journal accreditation regulations No. 134 of 2021 encourage the management of national journals to move towards internationalization, namely involving international writers, editors and reviewers.
“Journal managers need to prepare their journals to reach the Scopus indexed standard. Because, if a journal has been indexed by Scopus, automatically in the National or Arjuna Kemdikbud journal accreditation assessment, it will be immediately recognized as accredited by Sinta 1 bi ghairi hisab (without being assessed again). "However, if the journal turns out to be a failure, it cannot yet be indexed by Scopus. At least the Sinta 2 Journal Accreditation standards can be met easily," said Uwes.
Dr. Trida Gunadi, SE., MSi. The Head of the Master of Management Study Program at IKOPIN University who opened the workshop in his speech revealed that scientific journals are very much needed by universities because scientific journals are a bridge between universities which are positioned like ivory towers and society. With good quality scientific journals, which are nationally accredited or internationally indexed, these journals can provide greater benefits to the nation.
“Scientific journals are a medium of communication between universities and the community. This means that articles published in journals can be read by the public. "Journals are not only published because lecturers need KUM/credit figures, but must also be able to provide benefits for national development," he explained.
The resource persons in this activity were journal management figures in West Java, namely Prof. Dr. Wahyu Hidayat, M.Pd, Infinity Editor of the IKIP Siliwangi Journal which has been indexed by Scopus, Busro, M.Ag, Editor of HTS Theological Studies, a Scopus Indexed Journal, and Dr. Uwes Fatoni, M.Ag, Chair of the RJI West Java Regional Management and also Editor of the Dakwah and Communication Journal of UIN Bandung accredited Sinta 2.
Wahyu Hidayat, explains the selection criteria for Scopus indexed journals. According to the Deputy Chancellor for Resources, IKIP Siliwangi, to be indexed by Scopus, journal managers need to understand the pre-evaluation form for the Scopus submission process on the readyforscopus.com website.
“If the form is filled in completely and submitted, an email will be sent containing a link and a form for the Scopus submission process. Journal editors are also asked to send a cover letter, a cover letter. The next stage is that editors can find out the process of submitting indexation to Scopus in real time via the history suggest web page with 7 stages, namely Submission received, validated, Enrichment in progress, Enrichment completed, ready to be released to CSAB, under review by CSAB, and Review Complete, ” he said.
If it has reached the complete review stage and it says accepted, according to Wahyu, this means the journal has been accepted and indexed in Scopus and an official email will be sent announcing its acceptance. However, according to him, many journals failed in the previous stages and were embargoed for a certain period of time.
“There are journals that are embargoed by Scopus, they are not allowed to submit submissions to Scopus for a very long time, namely 5 years, because they are considered not ready to submit. "However, there are also 2 year or even one year embargoes, depending on the number of requirements that have not been met," explained Wahyu.
Material regarding the ethics of publishing scientific journals of international reputation was explained by Uwes Fatoni. In its presentation, every scientific journal must comply with the principles of transparency in journal management recognized by COPE (Committee of Publication Ethics).
"A good journal is a journal that meets publication ethics, namely clearly disclosing on its website the name, publication schedule, archiving, copyright, licensing, publication ethics, review assessment process, access, publisher, editorial board and contacts. And all of that must be displayed in the online journal in the top menu or side menu of the online journal," he said.
Meanwhile, Busro, in his presentation about strategies for finding international editors, reviewers and authors, revealed that many journal managers cannot be indexed by Scopus because they have difficulty finding editors, reviewers and writers from various countries.
“Diversity of editors, reviewers and writers is also a criterion in national journal accreditation. "For this we need a strategy, namely through colleagues, events and distributing invitations," he explained.
Busro further revealed that by sending mass invitations via email and several powerful applications, it is hoped that potential editors, reviewers and writers from various campuses and research institutions abroad will be attracted. And if this is done successfully, he said, it will be very easy for the journal to complete other Scopus indexed criteria.
RJI Regional Congress of West Java
The West Java Regional Congress of Indonesian Journal Volunteers (RJI) was also successfully held after the workshop. The Chairman of the RJI West Java Regional Leader, Uwes Fatoni, in his report, revealed that during his management period he had made maximum efforts to carry out various activities that helped journal managers at universities and research institutions in West Java.
"RJI West Java at the beginning of its management had difficulty carrying out activities because of the conditions in Indonesia which were affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. However, at least 8 training activities were successfully held from 2019 to 2023. The most monumental was the online journal management workshop during the WFH period which was attended online by more than 1000 participants from various campuses in Indonesia. "Apart from that, a fundraising workshop was also held for victims of the 2022 Cianjur earthquake disaster and succeeded in collecting aid funds which were immediately handed over to the disaster location in Cianjur, West Java," explained Uwes.
In the regional congress, RJI West Java members agreed on Uwes Fatoni and Rifqi Samsul Fuadi as candidates for chairman of RJI West Java for the 2023-2027 period to be submitted to the RJI Central Management in accordance with the latest RJI AD/ART.
"After this submission, the central management will determine and appoint the chairman of the West Java regional management. "Hopefully the results will be that the chairman of the RJI West Java regional management will be elected who will be able to provide great benefits in the development and management of scientific journals in the country, in accordance with the RJI motto: Sharing, Encouraging Publication," concluded Uwes.
